British Ambassador to Somalia sends off the Somali Olympic Team
The British Ambassador to Somalia, Matt Baugh, on Wednesday joined the Prime Minister of the Transitional Federal Government, Abdiweli Mohamed at Villa Somalia, Mogadishu, to wish the Somali Olympic well on their journey to the London 2012 Olympics.
Speaking at the event, Ambassador Matt Baugh said,
“It is an honour today to meet the athletes and officials that will take part in the London Olympics on behalf of Somalia.
“The Olympics are much more than a sporting celebration. They are about hope; they are about celebrating the values that bind us all together – commitment, dedication, inspiration. They are about celebrating endeavour; saluting achievement; and bequeathing a better future to the next generation. No where on earth do the values of the Olympics matter more than here in Somalia.
During the meeting, officials from the British Office for Somalia also took Team Somalia through immigration formalities required to ensure trouble-free entry into the UK.
The Somali Olympics team will be represented by two athletes: Mohamed Mohamed Hassan in the men’s 1500m and Farah Zamzam Mohamed in the women’s 400m.
